A devastating maritime collision between a Greek coastguard patrol vessel and a speedboat carrying migrants has claimed the lives of at least 14 individuals off the eastern Aegean island of Chios. The Greek coastguard confirmed the fatalities and reported that another 24 people were rescued from the waters. The coastguard has not yet provided further details on the precise cause of the collision or the identities of the casualties and other passengers on the speedboat. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
