Roo Irvine: From Marketing to BBC Antiques Expert

Roo Irvine, known to BBC viewers as a lively antiques expert on Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip, was born Arusha Irvine. She built a successful corporate career in marketing, holding senior roles and later running a consultancy with her husband Mark. However, a double family tragedy in 2013 reshaped her life entirely.

Personal Loss and a New Beginning

In 2013, Roo's father died suddenly. Just three weeks later, her husband Mark lost his own father after a long battle with cancer. The couple left their corporate jobs to care for their widowed mothers. Roo said on her website: "Kilcreggan Antiques came about quite by (bad) luck when suddenly, and unexpectedly, in 2013, my wonderful Dad passed away... Out of some of my darkest days came a sliver of light. Fate?"

Marriage and Family Life

Roo married Mark Irvine in 2012. Mark serves as an Independent councillor in Argyll and Bute and chairs the Helensburgh and Lomond Area Committee. The couple largely keep their private life out of the spotlight, but Roo shared a ninth anniversary tribute on social media in 2021, calling Mark her "rock, my strength & my mashed potato."

From Antiques Shop to TV Stardom

The couple founded Kilcreggan Antiques in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, where they still operate. Roo's expertise soon caught the BBC's attention, leading to regular appearances on Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip. She reflected: "I think the world of antiques found me, if anything." Today, she is one of the BBC's most beloved antiques experts, proving that tragedy can lead to unexpected opportunities.
