Sarah Jessica Parker Honoured with Golden Globes' Carol Burnett Award
Sarah Jessica Parker receives Golden Globes' Carol Burnett Award

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker has been presented with the prestigious Carol Burnett Award for career achievement in television at the Golden Globes ceremony. The honour was bestowed during the inaugural Golden Eve event held on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

A Tribute from Family and Co-Stars

The award was presented by her husband of nearly three decades, actor Matthew Broderick, who humorously recalled questioning her decision to take on the iconic role of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City in the 1990s. Parker received tearful tributes from longtime co-star Kristin Davis and a celebratory toast with cosmopolitans—the character's signature drink—led by actor Colman Domingo.

In her acceptance speech, Parker reflected on her five-decade career, stating, "It has been a privilege and a dream to call myself an actor." She spoke fondly of the show that defined her career, saying she spent 25 years with an incredible ensemble, treating New York as their soundstage.

Welcome to an Exclusive Club

The award's namesake, 92-year-old comedy legend Carol Burnett, welcomed Parker into the exclusive club via a message from her table. Burnett was the award's first recipient in 2019, with the most recent winner before Parker being Ted Danson.

Parker, now 60, began acting as a child, starring in Annie on Broadway. She cited watching her mother perform in Once Upon a Mattress—a show that was also Burnett's big break—as her early inspiration. Sex and the City ran for six seasons on HBO, leading to two films and the recent sequel series And Just Like That....

A Night of Dual Honours

The Thursday night CBS telecast of the Golden Globes, held on 8 January 2026, also honoured Dame Helen Mirren with the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Mirren, 80, an Oscar winner for The Queen, is nominated for a fourth Golden Globe this year for her role in MobLand. The DeMille award, dating to 1952, has previously been given to figures including Walt Disney and Tom Hanks.

Both Parker and Mirren were acknowledged during the main Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday, 11 January 2026. Parker's career accolades include six Golden Globe wins and two Emmy awards, cementing her status as a television icon.
