Trevor Nelson's Radio 2 Replacement Announced After Health Break

Trevor Nelson, the 62-year-old broadcaster, has temporarily stepped away from his BBC Radio 2 afternoon show following health concerns. The station has confirmed that Clara Amfo and DJ Spoony will cover for him during his absence.

Health Concerns Prompt Break

On Friday morning, Nelson announced on social media that he would be taking a break from his professional commitments after undergoing follow-up tests. While he did not specify the nature of his health issues, he emphasized the importance of focusing on recovery. "I'm concentrating on getting better, being back to 100% me and to getting back behind the mic and the decks," he wrote on Instagram.

Covering Presenters Announced

Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Richie Anderson stepped in for Nelson on Friday. Starting Monday, July 6, Clara Amfo will host the afternoon slot (2pm-4pm) for the first week. Beginning Monday, July 13, DJ Spoony, who also presents The Good Groove on Radio 2, will take over until Nelson returns, according to The Sun.

He began at KISS FM, moved to Radio 1 in 1996 to present the UK's first national R&B show, launched the first national R&B chart show, and later worked on BBC Radio 1Xtra from 2007.
