Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty is set to marry Holly Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, today in a ceremony at Bath’s historic Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. However, the joyous occasion has been overshadowed by a very public family rift, with the athlete's mother, Caroline Peaty, notably absent from the guest list.
A Celebration Overshadowed by Family Strife
The couple, who got engaged in September 2024, recently enjoyed a pre-wedding luxury trip to Lapland, with Peaty declaring himself "the luckiest man on earth" and expressing his eagerness for Holly to become his wife. Yet, in the weeks leading up to the big day, headlines have been dominated not by wedding plans, but by a painful family disagreement.
Reports indicate that Caroline Peaty, along with several other family members, has been uninvited from the wedding. It is believed that only Adam's sister, Bethany, will represent his side of the family at the ceremony. The origins of the feud are complex, with initial suggestions pointing to a disagreement over Caroline's choice of mother-of-the-groom outfit.
The Roots of the Disagreement
However, further insight suggests tensions began earlier, at the couple's engagement party. This event was filmed for an upcoming Netflix series featuring Gordon Ramsay, with guests required to sign non-disclosure agreements and surrender their phones. A source told The Sun that while Adam's family attended the party, relations deteriorated afterwards.
"His mum was unhappy some of the family weren’t there and confronted Gordon at the event," the source claimed. This confrontation is thought to be a significant catalyst for the subsequent fallout, which escalated in November when Adam’s aunt, Louise Williams, criticised Holly for not inviting Caroline to her hen do.
Caroline later spoke out publicly, sending a heartfelt message to her son. "I know it’s the end. But please... no matter what happens in the future, please know I love you, your dad loves you, you can come home and talk to me at any point," she said. She added that she felt the Ramsay family was "very insular" and expressed a fear that they were "pulling him away" from her.
Peaty Breaks His Silence
In response to the growing media attention, the 30-year-old Olympian issued a personal statement. He spoke of working hard to improve himself and navigate challenging times. "Bethany, Holly and I will get through this - we do not ask for sympathy," Peaty wrote. "We just need people to be aware that there are always two sides to every story." His fiancée, Holly, shared the post in a show of solidarity with her 400,000 followers.
In his 2021 autobiography, 'The Gladiator Mindset', Peaty had previously reflected on the personal cost of his intense focus, describing himself as a "selfish athlete" and acknowledging that his drive could sometimes be misinterpreted by loved ones as a lack of empathy or care.
As Adam Peaty and Holly Ramsay exchange vows in Bath today, the ceremony marks the start of their married life amidst a backdrop of unresolved family tensions, ensuring their union will be one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year.
