Alan Carr Sells 400 Unwanted Items from Scottish Castle

Alan Carr is selling hundreds of items from his new Scottish estate, Ayton Castle, at auction on July 5, 2026. The Celebrity Traitors winner purchased the castle earlier this year for £3.25 million, and a documentary series on Disney+ will follow his renovation of the property.

Auction Details and Items

The auction, conducted by Railtons, will begin at 10am at Ayton Castle. Prospective buyers can view the items on July 3 and 4, though tickets for the viewing have already sold out. According to Jim Railton of Railtons, the items are the residual contents of the castle that Carr does not want and the previous owners do not wish to take to their new home.

Approximately 400 items are up for sale, including furniture, pictures, books, bronze pieces, and the unique Branxton Cement Menagerie. The most expensive lot is a five-seater 2011 Bentley Mulsanne with 40,645 miles, expected to fetch between £20,000 and £30,000. Other notable items include a pair of French Louis VI style armoires, nineteenth-century oil paintings, a Victorian mahogany case of taxidermied birds, 52 contemporary upholstered chairs, and various beds, curtains, and rugs.

The Branxton Cement Menagerie

Over 90 lots feature the Branxton Cement Menagerie, a collection of painted concrete sculptures created by a retired joiner in the 1960s to entertain his disabled son. The collection, which grew to over 200 pieces, became a well-known outsider-art attraction until it was sold and moved to Ayton in 2021. Railtons described it as a father’s labour of love that became a much-loved visitor attraction.

Carr's Plans for the Castle

Carr, 50, is transforming Ayton Castle into a home and community venue. In April, he officially opened the castle and invited the public to host celebrations there, including birthdays, weddings, and other events. On Instagram, he said: "You might have heard I bought my own castle… yes, the rumours are true. The only thing missing is you. Now if you want to let your hair down in one of Scotland's most beautiful castles, then you’re in luck." He added: "Then why not have it at Ayton Castle? Be my guest. Get in touch at aytonevents@gmail.com for more information - and who knows, we might just be partying together."

Details about the sale are available on the Railtons website.
