Former Major League Baseball star Aubrey Huff has found himself at the centre of a social media firestorm after publishing a bizarre set of dating instructions, leading some followers to suggest he should get checked for CTE.
The Controversial Dating Tactic
The 48-year-old, who won two World Series titles with the San Francisco Giants, took to X this week to impart what he described as romantic wisdom for 'fellas'. Huff, who is divorced, bragged that his method was 'like shooting fish in a barrel' and claimed it works '9 times out of 10', though he later conceded it was a 'dick move'.
His detailed advice instructed men to confidently approach a woman at a bar, stand next to her, and order a drink. The crucial step involved maintaining unbroken eye contact with the woman until she looked away. He then advised men to loudly tell the bartender, "And please my good sir get this little temptress whatever she’s drinking," while staring into her soul.
The routine continued with an introduction in a "seductive & deep confident tone", followed by a nonsensical remark designed to pique curiosity. The final act involved asking the bartender for a napkin and pen, writing down a name and number, and delivering a line in a James Bond impression: "Nice to meet you sweet tits, & thank you for the drink, I’ll be sure to get the next one when you meet me later at the bar I’m headed to." The man was then instructed to slide the napkin over, put his drink on her tab, and walk away.
Social Media Backlash and CTE Comments
The post, which essentially detailed how to trick a woman into buying a drink, was met with widespread disgust online. One woman replied, "Nope. Let alone everything else you said, calling me sweet tits will next level anger me. What a worthless loser."
Another user directly addressed Huff's health, writing, "Don’t take this advice. U will be much happier in ur life but being kind to people... Get checked for CTE Huff." Comments like "I just puked in my mouth" and "This isn’t the flex you think it is" flooded the thread, highlighting the universal condemnation of his strategy.
A History of Controversy
This is not the first time Huff has courted controversy on social media. In January 2024, he was exposed for allegedly direct messaging Isabella Maria DeLuca, a 23-year-old Christian conservative influencer, on Christmas Day.
DeLuca shared screenshots of the alleged message where Huff wrote, "Hey beautiful, let's colab over cocktails and bad decisions." This came after Huff had publicly criticised her online. DeLuca called out the married father of two for his audacity, prompting Huff to temporarily delete his profiles. He later returned to X to defend himself, stating, "there's no crime for a single dude DM'ing a broad."
Huff was married to his ex-wife Barbara from 2007 until their divorce a decade later. They share two sons together. During his successful baseball career, which began with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, he also played for the Houston Astros, Baltimore Orioles, and Detroit Tigers before retiring in 2014. Away from the sport, he has previously been suspended from Twitter for spreading Covid-19 misinformation.
