Despite being hailed as a 'comedy icon' in series two of Amandaland, star Lucy Punch was shockingly snubbed at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday night. The British actress was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for her performance in series one of the hit BBC show, but failed to win.
Snubbed Alongside Co-Stars
Lucy lost out alongside her co-stars Jennifer Saunders and Philippa Dunne, who were also in the same category. The other nominees included Diane Morgan (Mandy), Rosie Jones (Pushers), and the eventual winner Katherine Parkinson for Here We Go.
Fans took to social media to express their shock, with one sharing a meme saying she's 'ignoring the verdict' while others claimed the three actresses were 'robbed'. Comments included: 'Three iconic women from Amandaland nominated for best comedy actress, plus OG Motherland actress Diane Morgan and none of them won?! Robbery I tell you.' Another wrote: 'It should have been Philippa Dunne, her character of Anne in #Amandaland is very funny.'
Amandaland Triumphs in Best Scripted Comedy
Despite the snub for its leading actresses, Amandaland went on to win Best Scripted Comedy. The BBC series follows the demise of Motherland's snooty Queen Bee Amanda, who has moved from a lavish life in Chiswick to becoming a single mother in South Harlesden. After winning, writer Holly Walsh said she loved when people said they watched the show with their children, adding: 'We can all enjoy watching a posh woman from Chiswick getting hit in the face with a football.'
The show beat Big Boys, How Are You? Its Alan (Partridge), and Things You Should Have Done.
Other BAFTA Winners
Elsewhere at the ceremony, Christine Tremarco surprisingly won Best Supporting Actress, beating her Adolescence co-star Erin Doherty, who had previously won a Golden Globe and Emmy.
The full list of winners includes Steve Coogan for Actor in a Comedy (How Are You? Its Alan (Partridge)), Adolescence for Limited Drama and Leading Actor (Stephen Graham), and The Celebrity Traitors for Reality.
