BBC Breakfast presenter Nina Warhurst has received an outpouring of support after sharing a candid update about her grief following the death of her father, Chris, in July. The 44-year-old broadcaster had previously disclosed that her father was diagnosed with dementia in 2022 and had been open about the family's care for him.
Taking to Instagram this week, Warhurst posted a video of a bath running with an emotional message reading: "Self care... it wasn't the bath that made me feel better it was that I thought I was someone worth running a bath for." In the caption, she revealed she had sought professional help for her grief, saying: "This week I decided to seek professional help for my grief. At the end of the first counselling session she asked, 'has this done what you'd hoped?'"
Warhurst added: "I realised it had taken me a long time to make the call that I knew needed to happen, and that just by picking up the phone I had become stronger and more capable of looking after myself. I felt proud." She encouraged her followers to try recognising a need and acting on it, describing it as a "placebo" that can be as powerful as the act itself.
The post was flooded with supportive messages from followers. One wrote: "You are doing amazingly always astounded how professional you are reading the news and juggling a young family... you should be proud of yourself on many levels." Another said: "Well done it can be so hard to ask for help. Thank you for sharing X."
Warhurst had previously shared a poignant tribute to her father in July, posting a photo of them holding hands and saying she "can't quite accept" his departure. She has been praised for her openness about grief and the challenges of caring for a parent with dementia.
