Billie Eilish and Others Praised for Stopping Shows Over Fan Safety

Billie Eilish, Linkin Park, and other musicians have been praised for intervening during their concerts to address safety concerns, following renewed attention on social media after the Astroworld tragedy.

Footage of these incidents gained traction online on Monday, as discussions about concert safety intensified after eight people died during a crowd surge at Travis Scott's Astroworld festival in Houston. About 50,000 people were in attendance.

In September, Billie Eilish stopped her performance to call out security, saying: “Security, why aren’t you paying attention? Like, for real.” A 2018 video also shows her interrupting a show to check on a fan who appeared to be passing out, offering water to those helping her.

Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington were seen in a resurfaced clip asking the crowd to “pick him up” when a fan fell. The crowd responded by chanting “Pick them up.” Post Malone was also captured getting off stage to assist a fan, saying: “She needs help. That girl back there.”

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl confronted and ejected a fan causing a disturbance, a video of which has garnered thousands of likes. Experts note that crowd surges often result from density, with people moving toward a performer or away from a threat before hitting a barrier.
