Eddie Nestor Diagnosed with Cancer, Steps Away from BBC Show

BBC Radio London presenter Eddie Nestor has revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer and is taking a break from his show to focus on treatment. The 62-year-old comedian and broadcaster shared the news on Instagram, stating he had already begun chemotherapy and never imagined writing such a post.

Eddie Nestor's Announcement and Chemotherapy

Nestor wrote: "You may have noticed I’ve been quieter than usual. I’ve been diagnosed with cancer. The good news is that, thanks to an incredible medical team, I’ve now had my first chemotherapy treatment." He did not specify the type of cancer but had previously battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2007, believed to be in remission for several years.

He expressed gratitude and hope, saying: "We're thankful, we're hopeful and as a family, we're looking upward and forward. I honestly don't know exactly what the next few months will look like." Nestor plans to return to work when he is able, concentrating on "getting stronger" in the meantime.

Support from BBC and Colleagues

Nestor asked followers not to feel sorry for him, instead requesting: "I’d rather have your prayers, your love and your encouragement and the occasional laugh. That’s the fuel I need." He thanked the BBC and everyone who has reached out with support.

The BBC issued a statement: "Our friend and colleague Eddie Nestor has announced that he will be away from Radio London for a period of time while he receives treatment for cancer. Everyone at BBC London sends Eddie and his family our love and support."

Co-Star's Emotional Tribute

Co-star Shay Kaur Grewal expressed her support on her afternoon show, calling Nestor a "personal dear friend" and noting the BBC Radio London team is "very much a family." She shared the news with permission from Nestor, acknowledging listeners' questions about his absence.
