Former GMB Star Richard Gaisford Mourns Beloved Dog Bertie's Death
Ex-GMB's Richard Gaisford heartbroken as family dog dies

Former Good Morning Britain stalwart Richard Gaisford has shared heartbreaking personal news, revealing the death of his cherished family dog, Bertie. The announcement comes just months after the veteran broadcaster confirmed his departure from the ITV breakfast show.

A Devastating Family Loss

Gaisford, who left Good Morning Britain in October 2025 after more than a quarter of a century with the programme, took to Instagram last week to pay tribute to his loyal companion. He shared a series of poignant photographs alongside an emotional farewell to the dog who had been "the heart of our family" for 16 years.

In his post, the journalist described Bertie as "the most loyal and loving friend," highlighting his gentle and calm nature. He wrote that the family would miss "the companion who always gave back double the affection he received" and recalled the spaniel's "magnificent mane."

Bertie's Role in the Family

Gaisford revealed that Bertie had been a "perfect role model" for the family's other dog, Daisy, who joined them eight years ago. He credited the pet with being "a rock for the whole family" who helped them navigate difficult times.

The family dog passed away after 16 years of companionship, with Gaisford expressing how deeply he would be missed. He added that they felt "blessed to have had such a happy, healthy and handsome boy at the heart of our family for such a long and wonderful time."

Outpouring of Support from Colleagues and Fans

The news prompted an immediate wave of sympathy from Gaisford's followers and former colleagues. Among them was his Good Morning Britain co-star Kate Garraway, who commented on the post to offer her condolences.

Garraway wrote: "So sorry Richard - heartbreaking the loss - and you'll miss all the love but hopefully have wonderful memories." Numerous fans also shared their support, with one noting how pets become "a massive, integral part of our lives" and another sending their thoughts to the grieving family.

This personal tragedy follows Gaisford's professional transition earlier this year. In October, he announced he was leaving the daily breakfast show, stating he had been "privileged to have the best job in TV news for the last quarter of a century."

Despite stepping back from Good Morning Britain, Gaisford remains within the ITV family, where he will focus on current affairs programming. His departure from the morning programme marked the end of an era, having reported from major global events throughout his 25-year tenure.
