Janet Hubert, best known as the original Aunt Vivian on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has clarified the nature of her reconciliation with Will Smith, dismissing rumours of a million-dollar payout. Speaking on The Big Tigger Show this week, the 68-year-old actress described their renewed friendship as 'so good' and credited Smith for providing meaningful support.
Rather than writing a large cheque, Smith invested in Hubert's career by backing her animation project, funding her website, and giving her access to his tech and social media team. He also helped her prepare presentations for Netflix and Amazon. When asked directly if he gave her millions, Hubert replied: 'He didn’t give me millions of dollars.'
Hubert revealed that Smith went further by joining her at an Embrace Girls Foundation event in Miami, where he spent three hours with 300 underserved children, handing out books and T-shirts and reading stories. The event supports a cause Hubert has championed for over two decades.
The reconciliation comes nearly five years after the pair reunited during the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion special on HBO Max, ending a bitter feud that began when Hubert left the sitcom in 1993. Smith had publicly labelled her 'difficult' and 'unprofessional', which Hubert said destroyed her career. During the reunion, Smith admitted he 'went way too far' and apologised.
Hubert has since praised Smith's recent work, calling his Oscar-winning performance in King Richard the most enjoyable she had seen since Hidden Figures. Fans have celebrated the transformation of their relationship, with one writing: 'Ms. Janet looks rejuvenated & happy — so glad Will came to his senses.'
