GMB Viewers Switch Off Over Taylor Swift Wedding Coverage

Good Morning Britain viewers expressed their displeasure during the latest episode on Friday, July 3, as hosts Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway devoted significant airtime to pop star Taylor Swift's rumoured wedding to NFL player Travis Kelce. The couple is speculated to be celebrating their nuptials at Madison Square Garden in New York City this weekend.

Coverage of the Wedding Rumours

High-profile friends of the couple, including actress Lena Dunham and frequent music collaborator Jack Antonoff, were spotted on Thursday, July 2, in formal attire. Aerial footage also showed a stream of black SUVs pulling up to the venue, with guests dropped off under a white canopy tent. Reporter Ashna Hurynag, reporting live from New York, shared details about the extensive police presence and gridlock caused by the event.

Ashna reported: "They are no stranger to an arena or a stadium, but could this be, the most famous arena in the world, could it be their chosen venue for their wedding? Well, this is the cost it's come at, barriers everywhere across New York. Complete gridlock. In fact, this is a main road [and] I'm able to walk in the middle of it because there are police absolutely everywhere. It's an extraordinary police presence."

Cost and Guest List

Ashna also noted that hiring the venue for three days has reportedly cost £3 million, describing it as a "wedding palooza." She added: "So, here's what we know so far. A rehearsal dinner [with] some 100 guests or so wrapped up a few hours ago. The idea is that a celebration or party of some kind is planned for tomorrow night. Over 1,000 people have been invited, including Graham Norton, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, to name but a few, who have been spotted milling around New York City."

Viewer Reactions

Viewers took to social media to criticise the coverage, with many claiming to switch off. One person wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "So far screaming kids and Taylor Swift, have I got the wrong channel. Is this @cbbc or #gmb." Another added: "4 grown a** women screeching about Taylor Swift's wedding," while a third said: "Turned on the TV to accompany my breakfast and #GMB came on. Four screaming harridans all screeching over the top of each other…couldn't turn that over fast enough!"

Additional comments included: "They're all shouting at each other!" and "It ground my gears this morning." The show also featured discussions with regular commentators Salma Shah and Caroline Flint about the wedding.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am.
