Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are reportedly preparing for a return to Britain next month that could mark a significant step in repairing relations with the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess are expected to travel from the US with their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, between July 6 and July 10 for the "One Year To Go" Invictus events in Birmingham. According to insiders, King Charles has also invited the family to stay at a royal residence during the visit.
Strict Conditions for Family Reunion
While the trip is centred on the Invictus Games, reports suggest efforts have been made behind the scenes to ensure any family reunion remains entirely private. Royal commentator Alison Boshoff, who says she has sources within the Sussex camp, claimed any meeting between Harry, Meghan and the King would come with strict ground rules designed to avoid further public fallout. Boshoff wrote that there would be “no cameras, no subsequent Instagram posts, no revelations in interviews afterwards,” describing the arrangements as part of a wider attempt to rebuild trust.
A well-placed source reportedly told her: “Charles has let him know that he is really looking forward to seeing his grandchildren. Harry is looking forward to the visit and to building bridges. That is what everyone wants.”
No Commercial Activity During Private Time
Although a film crew is expected to follow Harry and Meghan during official Invictus engagements, Boshoff, writing for the Daily Mail, claims private family time has been ruled out as a filming opportunity. She also reported there would be no commercial activity linked to the family's time together in Britain.
The reported arrangements have prompted renewed discussion about the so-called Sandringham Agreement reached after the Sussexes stepped back as working royals in 2020. At the time, the late Queen Elizabeth II ruled that the couple could not be "half in and half out", meaning they could not continue carrying out official royal duties while pursuing commercial ventures. Boshoff now claims attitudes may have softened in practice.
“According to friends of Harry, a new idea has taken hold, which will see him and Meghan free to flog jam and make speeches for cash when they are in America, but treated as cherished members of the Royal Family when in the UK,” she wrote.
Meghan's Role in Invictus Events
The Duke and Duchess have continued to expand their commercial interests in the United States. Meghan attracted attention during a visit to Australia in April after promoting the clothes she wore through the AI-powered platform OneOff, allowing followers to identify and buy the same items. However, Boshoff suggested that approach will not be repeated during the UK visit. Speaking to journalist Paula Froelich on her Uncensored podcast, she was asked whether Meghan would use the platform to showcase outfits worn during the trip. Boshoff replied that the Duchess had agreed not to do so, adding there would be “no shenanigans”.
Despite the focus on family reconciliation, the visit's main purpose remains the Invictus Games, the international sporting competition for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans founded by Prince Harry in 2014. Boshoff told Froelich that Meghan is expected to play a prominent role during the official programme. “She is doing all of the Invictus launches with Harry. She will be at his side,” Boshoff said. However, she added that Meghan is likely “going to be behind closed doors for most of it”.
