Helen Skelton has finally addressed the persistent rumours linking her romantically to her BBC Morning Live co-host Gethin Jones, calling the speculation 'wild' and reiterating that they are just close friends and colleagues.
Skelton Dismisses Engagement Rumours
Speaking to The Times, the Countryfile presenter revealed that the gossip had become so intense that even her best friend congratulated her on an engagement to Jones. 'It's wild. I've had my best friend congratulate me on our engagement. We're not (together). We work together; he's one of my best friends,' Skelton said.
The mother of three, who split from her husband Richie Myler in 2022, stressed that there is no romantic involvement between her and the Cardiff-born presenter, despite their undeniable chemistry on the BBC daytime show.
Dating Apps and Family Questions
Skelton also joked about her dating life, saying she 'couldn't think of anything worse' than using dating apps. She amusingly added that her father keeps suggesting she try Tinder, but he actually means the second-hand clothing app Vinted.
Her children have also asked about her relationship status. 'My daughter said to me today, "Why haven't you got a wedding ring on, Mummy?" My middle son said, "Do you think you'll die alone?" I just laughed. I said, "I'll die happy," Skelton shared.
Previous Denials and Co-Host Support
This is not the first time Skelton has dismissed the rumours. Earlier this year, she told the Mirror: 'No, well, he's in Manchester working away, so yeah, no, all good. We just work together, we are not together. No, no, no. We are just work friends. They printed pictures of us at work and that we're together because we are at work together.'
Jones also addressed the speculation last year, telling The Sun: 'We are very supportive of each other, we like do look out for each other. I think that's fair to say on and off camera. You sometimes could get… you might need a little pep talk every now and then. Because she's very passionate.'
National Television Awards Nominations
Despite the ongoing rumours, Skelton and Jones are set to compete against each other at the National Television Awards this year, both nominated in the Best Presenter category. Their show, Morning Live, is also up for Best Daytime TV show. A BBC statement confirmed: 'We are delighted to announce that Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton have both been nominated in the TV Presenter category at the National Television Awards.'
