A pair of swimming trunks worn by Daniel Craig in the James Bond film Casino Royale have sold for £44,450 at an auction marking 50 years of the spy franchise. The navy and powder blue shorts, size large and made in Italy by La Perla, were among 50 pieces of 007 memorabilia sold by Christie's on Friday.
The auction, held half a century after the first Bond film Dr No in 1962, also featured an Aston Martin DBS driven by Craig in Quantum of Solace, which fetched £241,250. Proceeds from the sale of the trunks went to the charity Women for Women.
Dame Judi Dench, who plays Bond's boss M, introduced the trunks with a joke: 'All I'm going to tell you is they're unwashed.' Other guests included former Bond Sir Roger Moore and comedian David Walliams, who quipped that proceeds from the Aston Martin would go to the 'Roger Moore spray tan foundation.'
A scaled-down model of an Aston Martin DB5 raised £61,250 for Tickets for Troops, while the complete works of Ian Fleming sold for £91,250. A navy woollen suit worn by Craig in Skyfall went for £46,850, and a titanium Omega watch from the same film fetched £157,250.
The orchestral score for the Skyfall theme song, signed by Adele and Paul Epworth, sold for £13,750. A night at Claridges and a chauffeur-driven Aston Martin to the Skyfall premiere raised £37,250, more than ten times the expected price.
