Jessica Simpson Awkward Reunion with Eric Johnson at Graduation

Jessica Simpson experienced an awkward reunion with her estranged husband Eric Johnson a year and a half after their separation. The 45-year-old singer and the 46-year-old former NFL player attended their 12-year-old son Ace Knute's sixth grade graduation in Los Angeles.

Frosty Atmosphere

Despite the celebratory occasion, the atmosphere between the former couple appeared chilly. They barely interacted, with Simpson trailing behind Johnson as they walked to dinner at the Japanese hibachi chain Benihana. Also present were their other two children: 14-year-old daughter Maxwell 'Maxi' Drew and seven-year-old daughter Birdie Mae.

Simpson's teenage daughter Maxi towered over her, while the 6-foot-3 Johnson held hands with their youngest child. The pop star has remained private about her relationship with Johnson since their split.

Split Announcement

Simpson announced her separation from Johnson in January 2025 after ten years of marriage. Rumors of trouble first emerged in November 2024 when she began teasing new music, writing online: 'Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic. This comeback is personal. It's an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.'

Simpson has reportedly moved on romantically, seeing Nashville-based musician Thomas Eisenhood since early this year, according to TMZ. The couple met through mutual friends, and Eisenhood has not yet met Simpson's children.

Previous Marriage and Drama

Before marrying Johnson in 2014, Simpson was married to Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006. Drama between the exes surfaced earlier this month when Lachey, now 52 and host of Love is Blind, claimed Simpson flew first class while her family sat in coach on a flight to Hawaii in April.

The revelation sparked headlines and social media debate. Two weeks ago, Simpson confirmed the story to photographers at LAX, insisting it was not her fault. 'My mom bought those tickets,' she said. 'It was my mom's treat for us to go to Hawaii.'

Lachey discussed the encounter on Watch What Happens Live, confirming he saw Simpson in first class with her mother while Johnson and the kids were in a different section. He described the interaction as 'very cordial, very respectful.'

Following her first divorce, Simpson was linked to John Mayer and Tony Romo.
