John Cena Leads New Netflix Comedy 'Little Brother'

Former WWE star John Cena takes the lead role in Netflix's new sibling comedy, Little Brother, which premiered on the streaming platform today (June 26). The film follows Rudd (Cena), a successful real estate agent whose life is turned upside down when his quirky younger brother Marcus (Eric André) unexpectedly reappears. Rudd's wife, played by Michelle Monaghan, attempts to broker peace between the estranged siblings, but their drama proves too intense.

Despite over two decades in the spotlight, fans know little about Cena's family. The 49-year-old actor is the second eldest of five boys and has spoken about their tight-knit upbringing.

John Cena's Four Brothers

Cena has four brothers: Stephen, Dan, Matthew, and Sean. Stephen, known as Steve, is John's older brother and a theatre actor who appeared in Bloody Island and the 2019 horror Return to Clark County. Reflecting on their bond as adults, Steve shared on the I Played, Too podcast: "As we've grown into adulthood, we've absolutely gotten much closer. I'm still kind of a quiet person; I still tend to keep to myself, but if I'm home visiting, we'll go out to dinner. We're very friendly with each other. It's great seeing my family."

Dan Cena: Police Officer and Survivor

Dan, John's younger brother, works in law enforcement. In 2007, he was struck by a drunk driver while patrolling in his police car, breaking his left leg. The accident "took him out of the game for a little while," Dan revealed during a joint appearance with John on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2019. He has since returned to full form.

Matthew Cena: The Supportive Fan

Matthew Cena has stayed out of the spotlight but has been a huge supporter of John's wrestling career. In 2000, Matthew struggled to find tickets for a sold-out WWE event where John was set for his first dark match. He ran into Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson at a California gym and asked for help. In the documentary Once in a Lifetime: The Rock vs. John Cena, Matthew recalled: "I said, 'My brother's got this tryout match for the WWE, it's a big thing for him and I don't know if you could help or not, but I would love to go.'" The Rock kindly secured tickets for him.

Sean Cena: The Silent Champion

Sean, the youngest brother, was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2011 but beat the disease. John told Huffington Post: "I had a personal run-in with cancer. My youngest brother, Sean, had an inoperable brain tumour. He's the last of five boys, so he's the most reserved out of all of us. I saw what he went through though, and the treatment he had to rely upon. I saw him going through being a boy to becoming a man. What he went through keeps us so motivated. Around the family, we call him our 'silent champion.'"

Little Brother is now streaming on Netflix.
