Lena Dunham, the Emmy Award-nominated actress and longtime best friend of Taylor Swift, delivered an X-rated speech at Swift's wedding to Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce on Friday, leaving guests stunned. The ceremony took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, surrounded by a host of A-list attendees.
Speech Sparks Mixed Reactions
According to insiders, Dunham, who was asked to give a toast at the reception, made crude jokes that referenced Kelce's American football career. She allegedly quipped that the sport was "just straight guys re-enacting gay porn" in front of the newlyweds' family and friends, including several NFL stars. The Mail reported that gasps could be heard from the well-heeled guests, which included actor Bradley Cooper, model Gigi Hadid, and NFL icon Tom Brady.
The source claimed that while there were many speeches, Dunham became one of the biggest talking points of the night, as her jokes drew a "divided" response from guests, who reacted with a combination of "gasps and laughs." Swift, however, is said to have seen the funny side of the crude gag and called Dunham a "genius" after her speech.
Longstanding Friendship
Swift and Dunham have been close friends for over a decade. Swift served as a bridesmaid at Dunham's wedding to musician Luis Felber in 2021. Dunham also dedicated her 2026 memoir Famesick to Swift, writing: "TayTay — you sing the songs I wrote this book to… and yet somehow, miraculously, you also pick up every desperate call at every desperate hour." Speaking to People about their friendship, Dunham shared: "It's a crazy thing, because she's one of my best friends in the world but she's also my favourite music."
Wedding Details
New York was transformed for the big day, with huge billboards surrounding Madison Square Garden revealing the moment Swift and Kelce became Mr and Mrs, allowing excited fans outside to celebrate. Swift's brother, Austin, served as her Man of Honour, while Kelce's brother, Jason, was his Best Man. Actor Adam Sandler officiated the wedding. Notably absent was Swift's former close friend Blake Lively, amid her ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni. Lively, who is godmother to Swift's children through her husband Ryan Reynolds, was reportedly snubbed from the star-studded event.
