Liam Gallagher has publicly declared he is 'ready' to perform Oasis's iconic hit 'Wonderwall' at the World Cup final, following a message of support to England captain Harry Kane. The gesture came after Kane revealed he lost his voice singing the song during England's dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico in the round of 16 on Monday morning.
Kane Loses Voice After England Win
Harry Kane, 32, scored a crucial penalty that sealed England's win, propelling them into the quarter-finals against Norway. In a post-match interview with the BBC, Kane struggled to speak, telling cameras: 'My voice has gone. It was a crazy game, we had to fight. We had to find something. I’ve just been singing there, I can’t really talk, all the occasion, the team. Everything was against us, we found a way. I’m speechless, I can’t even talk.'
The England captain attributed his hoarseness to singing 'Wonderwall', the 1995 Oasis classic that Liam Gallagher helped make a global hit.
Gallagher's Response and Fan Interaction
Upon hearing Kane's interview, Liam Gallagher took to Instagram to offer his support, writing: 'It’s hard work that singing Harry Kane cmon ENGLAND cmon WONDERWALL.' A fan then replied, suggesting Gallagher should perform the song live on the pitch if England reach the final. The fan wrote: 'Guessing it's we do hit the final you know it's mandatory you fly out there and sing wonderwall live on the pitch.' Gallagher responded: 'We’ll see I’m ready.'
Gallagher, who reunited with his brother Noel for an Oasis tour last year, has not confirmed a performance but his willingness has excited fans.
Match Recap and Quarter-Final Outlook
England's victory over Mexico was hard-fought. After a cagey opening half-hour, Jude Bellingham headed in Bukayo Saka's cross to give England the lead. Minutes later, Bellingham scored again after Anthony Gordon won the ball high and Harry Kane crossed for his teammate. Mexico halved the deficit before half-time through Julian Quinones from a set-piece. In the second half, England's Jarrel Quansah was shown a straight red card after a VAR review for a dangerous challenge. Despite being down to 10 men, Harry Kane converted a penalty after Anthony Gordon was fouled, making it 3-1.
England now face Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday, 11 July at 10pm. Norway advanced after Erling Haaland's brace secured a 2-1 win over five-time champions Brazil. Should England overcome Norway, they will play in the semi-final on Wednesday, 15 July at 8pm against one of Switzerland, Colombia, Argentina, or Egypt.
