Joanna Lumley and Lucy Punch have reunited for the second series of Amandaland, the hit comedy spin-off from Motherland. The show, which follows the pretentious Amanda and her mother Felicity, has become the most-watched comedy over the 2025 festive season, with 7.4 million viewers tuning in for the Christmas special.

Punch, who plays Amanda, says the dynamic between her character and Lumley's Felicity generates sympathy for an otherwise unlikable character. 'I didn't want to pull back on any of her obnoxious behaviour,' she said. The first series saw Amanda rebrand her new neighbourhood as 'SoHa' and fight over a giant metal horse at a car boot sale.

Lumley praised Punch as 'smart and good and committed', comparing her to 'an express train'. The pair first worked together in 2004's Ella Enchanted, and their on-screen chemistry has endured for over two decades. Punch described Lumley as the 'special sauce' of the show.

For series two, Amanda's flat has been moved to a TV studio set, allowing the crew more space and eliminating traffic noise. Lumley joked that the original house's owners might be jealous of the new set. Punch, who lives in the US with her partner Dinos Chapman, admitted she often gets called 'Amanda' by fans, recalling an incident where she accidentally jumped a queue and was told 'such an Amanda move'.
