Meghan Markle is returning to the UK after four years, and a royal expert has revealed what they claim is her cunning plan behind the visit. The Duchess of Sussex will accompany Prince Harry to Britain in July for the One Year To Go Invictus Games event, with the Games themselves taking place in Birmingham next year.
Expert Claims Status Boost Is the Goal
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Express that the Sussexes have not succeeded in Hollywood, and the trip is about boosting their status. He said: 'They haven't succeeded in Hollywood. That's what it's about, boosting their status and using Invictus as a lever as well, obviously, as being very personal for Harry.'
Fitzwilliams also claimed that Meghan is bringing her two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to deflect criticism. He noted that her popularity ratings are at 20%, while Harry's are at 30%—not much better. He added: 'She knows her popularity ratings are 20% and his are at 30% are not much better. There will be plenty of footage of Harry and no doubt of Meghan with children. She has one advantage, everyone knows who she is, the press may attack but there will still be huge coverage.'
Timing Coincides With Low Popularity
The visit coincides with recent polls showing Meghan's popularity in Britain remains low. Another royal commentator, Lee Cohen, a US-based columnist and royal and foreign policy commentator, warned the couple about public perception. Speaking to the Spectator, he said: 'A return for Meghan Markle, if it actually happens, could drop like a lead balloon with the British public. She torched her bridges in her husband’s homeland, above all, it seems, through the couple’s conduct toward the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in their final years. Many in Britain and throughout the globe who cherished the late Queen and her husband will neither forget nor forgive.'
Children Used to Deflect Criticism
Fitzwilliams emphasized that Meghan's decision to bring the children is a strategic move. He said: 'Meghan is bringing the children as a way of deflecting criticism.' He also noted that Harry is attached to charities like WellChild and Scotty's Little Soldiers, which may feature during the visit.
The Invictus Games event is deeply personal for Harry, who founded the Games for wounded veterans. The couple's last visit to the UK was in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee and later for her funeral.
