Michelle McManus Opens Up About Nine-Stone Weight Loss and Self-Love Journey

Former Pop Idol champion Michelle McManus has shared details of her dramatic nine-stone weight loss, telling Good Morning Britain hosts Kate Garraway and Rob Rinder that her children inspired the transformation. The 44-year-old Scottish singer said meeting her husband and starting a family in her 40s shifted her focus.

McManus explained that after having her two children, now aged four and two, she experienced dark thoughts about not being there for them. 'It was like a light switch went off because all of a sudden it wasn't about me anymore,' she said. She wanted to be the best version of herself for her kids.

Denying use of Ozempic, McManus clarified she is a type one diabetic. Despite efforts to lose weight, she initially gained more. She admitted feeling miserable when looking in the mirror, even though her body had given her children and a successful career.

McManus achieved sustainable weight loss through a calorie-deficit approach, strength training, swimming, and dietary changes. She also considered surgery but found success with gradual lifestyle adjustments. The singer stressed that her journey was never about clothing sizes or scale numbers, but about feeling content with her reflection.

Despite initial hesitation, McManus shared her story publicly on social media for the first time, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. 'It's been the most joyous experience on social media, people have been so positive,' she said. She emphasised that her message is about body positivity.

Reflecting on her past, McManus said she couldn't connect with her former self, though she acknowledged that person was beautiful. Now, she concluded: 'I look at myself and I really like what I see and I'm really happy.'
