Olly Murs: New Dad Bliss and Twin Brother Estrangement
Olly Murs: New Dad Bliss and Twin Estrangement

Olly Murs is now one of the UK's most successful pop stars and is currently enjoying new dad bliss. However, the X Factor star is still suffering from a long-standing estrangement from his twin brother.

From X Factor to Family Man

Olly Murs is a hugely accomplished English pop star, songwriter and television presenter who first shot to fame as runner-up on the sixth series of The X Factor back in 2009. Celebrated for his cheeky charisma, soulful pop sound and trademark dance moves, he successfully made the leap from reality TV hopeful to one of Britain's most dependable and beloved entertainers.

Olly's personal life is defined by an exciting new chapter as a husband and father of two, set against a well-documented, long-running rift with his twin brother. Since finding fame on The X Factor, Olly has evolved from a globe-trotting pop sensation into a devoted family man settled in Essex.

Marriage and Children

At the heart of Olly's home life are his wife and their two young children. Olly tied the knot with fitness model and bodybuilder Amelia Tank in July 2023 during a three-day, festival-inspired celebration on Osea Island in Essex. The pair first connected via social media in 2019, after Olly stumbled across a cute, beaming photo of Amelia on Instagram and decided to slide into her DMs.

Given Amelia's passion for fitness and bodybuilding, she suggested their first meeting take place at a gym for a group workout session. Olly later quipped that he won her heart after a 'sweaty first date'. Their first proper date at a pub for a Sunday roast was a disaster because they were constantly mobbed by fans wanting photographs. The romance briefly faded after that disastrous pub outing, but they rekindled things later in 2019 when Amelia helped care for him following major knee surgery. They officially announced themselves as a couple on New Year's Day, 2020.

The pair welcomed their first child, a daughter named Madison, in April 2024. Olly openly admitted to breaking down in tears over the guilt of having to depart for a contractual tour with Take That just two days after her birth. Their family expanded to four when Amelia gave birth to their son, Albert, in September 2025. Albert was named after Olly's paternal great-grandfather. Having 'two under two' led Olly to scale back his demanding music commitments to be completely present at home.

Parents and Heritage

Olly maintains an exceptionally close bond with his parents, Vicky-Lynn and Pete Murs, who still reside near him in Essex. He has frequently described his childhood home as a warm, vibrant place brimming with singing and laughter. Through his father's side, Olly is of Latvian heritage; his great-grandparents were circus performers who relocated to the UK in 1948.

The star also has a sister named Fay. While she predominantly lives a private life away from the music industry, she has occasionally emerged into the public eye to support her brother and champion mental health causes.

Twin Brother Feud

The most distressing element of Olly's family life is his total estrangement from his twin brother, Ben, which has persisted since 2009. The split started when Olly decided to compete in The X Factor semi-finals instead of attending Ben's wedding, where he was meant to serve as best man.

Ben felt profoundly betrayed, later severing contact with the whole family, adopting his wife's surname, and criticising the family for prioritising 'VIP lifestyles' over him. The circumstances caused tremendous heartbreak for their mother, Vicky-Lynn, who became physically unwell from the strain of her sons' falling out. Olly says he continues to send Ben a text message every year for their birthday, although Ben has long since changed his number. Olly has acknowledged that becoming a father himself has made him deeply grasp his mother's profound sadness over the fractured bond.
