Osaka Apologises in Chaotic Wimbledon Interview After Birthday

Naomi Osaka apologised and made a hilarious confession during her post-match interview at Wimbledon after reaching the fourth round for the first time in her career. The 14th seed defeated Daria Kasatkina 6-1 6-3 in just over an hour on No. 1 Court.

Osaka Reaches New Milestone at Wimbledon

The four-time Grand Slam champion advanced to the last 16 at the All England Club for the very first time. It has been a special week for Osaka, whose daughter Shai turned three on Thursday. Osaka had previously shared plans to celebrate at the park, but the day after the party, she gave a not-so-positive update.

Speaking to the crowd, Osaka said: “I shouldn’t be telling you this,” before revealing that the birthday didn’t go as planned. The Japanese star took questions from interviewer Rishi Persad and wanted to ensure she had time to thank her support team.

Chaotic Interview Moment

Osaka asked Persad: “If this is your last question, can I shout out my box? Because… Thank you, guys for being here. Yeah, I mean, it was really fun to play, and I hope that I’m able to get further and further, but just thank you guys for watching.”

Persad then admitted he had hoped to ask another question. “I was hoping to ask you one more question if that was okay?” he said. Osaka grinned and replied: “Okay, sorry!”

Osaka's Strong Performance

Osaka made light work of Kasatkina, winning in straight sets to book her spot in the fourth round. The victory marks a significant achievement for Osaka, who has struggled on grass in the past. She will now face a yet-to-be-determined opponent in the next round.
