Paul O'Grady, the beloved entertainer who died suddenly in March 2023 at age 67, left a substantial sum in his will for his five rescue dogs. The star, known for his love of animals, set aside £125,000 for the care of Nancy, Arfur, Conchita, Eddie, and Sausage.
O'Grady's will specified that his agent, Joan Marshrons, would take over responsibility for the dogs and use the legacy for their upkeep until each animal dies. The dogs, all rescues, were a central part of O'Grady's life, often appearing on his TV show and social media.
In addition to the dog fund, O'Grady left £500,000 to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and £775,000 to various charities, including £50,000 each to elephant and orangutan organisations and £50,000 to the Salvation Army. His total estate was valued at £15.5 million.
A friend of O'Grady commented on his final wishes, saying it was typical of him to ensure his dogs received the best love and care. The friend noted that while £125,000 seems a large amount, the dogs meant the world to O'Grady.
Two of O'Grady's goats, Maleficent and Beebo, also died just two months after his passing. His husband, Andre Portasio, announced the news on Instagram, stating the goats had died of old age. The couple also kept chickens, pigs, sheep, and alpacas on their Kent property.
