Adam Peaty and Holly Ramsay's Wedding Sparks 'Selfish' Row Over Bath Abbey Closure
Peaty & Ramsay wedding 'selfish' over Bath Abbey booking

The star-studded wedding of Olympic champion Adam Peaty and model Holly Ramsay is taking place today at the historic Bath Abbey, but the couple's exclusive booking has ignited a wave of criticism for closing the landmark to the public and other brides and grooms.

All-Day Booking Blocks Public and Other Couples

Pictures reveal the breathtaking venue, with the majestic abbey reserved for the entirety of Saturday, December 27. While the ceremony for the swimmer and the daughter of famed chef Gordon Ramsay is expected to last only around 90 minutes, the all-day reservation prevents any other couples from tying the knot there.

This decision has been branded as "selfish" by critics. One source told The Sun: "It seems rather selfish to be hiring the abbey for the whole day when your wedding service only lasts for an hour and a half or so." Tourists visiting the historic city will also be barred, with the official Bath Abbey website stating it is "closed for visiting" on December 27.

Family Feud and Strict Security Measures

The lavish event, with guests including the Beckhams, unfolds against the backdrop of an ongoing family rift. It is understood that Adam's sister, Bethany, will be the only member from the Peaty family side in attendance.

His mother, Caroline Peaty, who was uninvited, had initially planned to gatecrash but has reportedly decided against it, saying it would be "too upsetting." In a heartfelt plea to her 30-year-old son, she said: "I know it’s the end. But please... no matter what happens in the future, please know I love you, your dad loves you, you can come home and talk to me at any point."

Security will be on hand to deter the public, and guests face a strict no-photos rule. As reported, attendees were informed that while phones are allowed for communication, all cameras will be covered upon arrival to "maintain the intimacy" of the day.

Premium Price for Privacy and Exclusivity

While it typically costs £2,500 to rent Bath Abbey for a wedding, it is believed Peaty and Ramsay have paid a significant premium for their exclusive all-day booking. This ensures complete privacy for their high-profile ceremony but at the cost of public access to one of Bath's most iconic sites.

The combination of the venue closure, the family drama, and the stringent privacy measures has turned what should be a private celebration into a very public talking point, highlighting the tensions that can arise when celebrity demands meet public heritage.
