Sky has confirmed that the comedy series 'The Paper', starring Harry Potter actor Domhnall Gleeson, will return for a second season on September 10. The show, a mockumentary spin-off of the US version of 'The Office', has been hailed by fans as a 'masterpiece' and a 'must watch'.
Returning Cast and Guest Stars
Domhnall Gleeson, known for playing Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter films, leads the returning cast alongside Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, and Gbemisola Ikumelo. Guest stars for the new season include Jon Lovitz from 'The Simpsons', Andy Richter from 'Conan', and Lisa Gilroy from 'Jury Duty'.
Plot of Season Two
The official synopsis reveals: 'In season two, after sweeping the Ohio Journalism Awards, Ned searches for a journalistic crusade, coming for a local private club and jeopardizing the paper, while he and Mare try to figure out their attraction, Esmeralda struggles to find her place, and the staff gradually mature as reporters.'
Fan Reception
Since its launch in 2025, 'The Paper' has garnered a strong following. On Rotten Tomatoes, one fan posted: 'Absolutely a masterpiece, I hope it goes on for many, many more seasons!' Another viewer commented: 'A must watch!' A third added: 'The Office is such a cultural staple that I didn't think recreating it in a modern world – where not every joke would be allowed anymore – was even possible. But this revival absolutely delivered.'
On IMDb, an impressed viewer wrote: 'The show has a perfect mix of heart, humour, and workplace chaos, and the mockumentary style immediately draws you in – fans of The Office will feel right at home.' Another declared: 'Comedy at its finest. Absolutely hilarious, this show is an unexpected gem... It has a cadence and tone that's reminiscent of The Office, capturing that same kind of dry, awkward brilliance, but without feeling like a cheap knock-off. It stands entirely on its own, delivering laughs in a way that feels both familiar and completely fresh.'
One fan described the series as 'perfect', stating they were 'obsessed'. They added: 'The likeness to The Office is insane but not in a copycat way more so in the sense as it had the same feel as The Office but still very original writing.'
Where to Watch
'The Paper' season two will be available on Sky and streaming service NOW from September 10.
