Peter Kay's Car Share to Return for Special Finale and Improvised Episode

Peter Kay has announced that his hit sitcom Car Share will return for a special finale and an improvised episode, following the controversial ending of the second series earlier this year. The new episodes will air on BBC One in 2018.

Kay revealed the news during a Children In Need broadcast on Friday, where he also auctioned tickets for an intimate live show raising over £633,000 for the charity. The comedian had previously stated there would be no third series or Christmas specials, but fan demand prompted the surprise return.

The second series ended with Kayleigh (Sian Gibson) declaring her love for John (Kay) but walking away when he failed to reciprocate. Many viewers were disappointed by the lack of a romantic resolution. Kay said: 'People have been very angry that the series ended in that way. But there is a series finale explaining what happened the next day, after the big argument.'

In addition to the finale, Kay and Gibson have filmed Car Share Unscripted, a half-hour improvised episode unrelated to the main storyline. Kay described it as 'just us having a laugh.' The original series won two Bafta TV Awards in 2016, including best scripted comedy.
