Ruth Jones, the actress and writer known for 'Gavin and Stacey' and 'Stella', has revealed that she lost 4.5 stone through calorie counting. The 59-year-old star began her weight loss journey in January 2010 after returning from a holiday.
Speaking about her transformation, Jones said: 'I came back from holiday - January 2010 - and we all overdo it on holiday, don't we? Something just clicked, I felt this is now or never, I wanted to make a positive change for me and I haven't looked back.' She focused on portion control and tracking her calorie intake, aiming for 1,250 to 1,500 calories per day, below the NHS-recommended 2,000 for women.
Jones emphasised patience over quick fixes: 'The main thing is that I realised I was going to have to be patient. When diets promise you things like "lose a stone in a week" it's just not realistic.' She lost the weight over 22 months, achieving a size 12.
The actress noted that calorie values are widely available: 'There are calorie values on the back of everything - supermarket sandwiches, chocolate bars, everything.' Her approach was steady and sustainable, avoiding drastic measures.
