Ryan Gosling has offered a rare glimpse into his private family life with Eva Mendes and their two daughters, Esmeralda, seven, and Amada, five. In an interview with British GQ, the 41-year-old actor admitted that his children are "growing up so fast" and that he now has to be more mindful of time in a way he never used to.
Gosling, known for his roles in La La Land and Drive, confessed that lockdown was particularly challenging as a parent. "Our kids were at a difficult age not to be able to see other kids and interact with people, even though Eva and I did our best," he said. He joked that he had to act more during quarantine than on the big screen, and found his children to be a "tougher crowd."
The actor also revealed that he is in no rush to introduce his children to his filmography, fearing they might struggle to distinguish between fantasy and reality. Both Gosling and Mendes, 47, have chosen to shield their children from the public eye. Mendes has previously stated on Instagram that she will not post pictures of her children until they are old enough to give consent.
In a separate post last April, Mendes sparked debate by comparing smacking children to domestic violence. She shared a parenting quote: "Spanking does for a child's development what hitting a spouse does for a marriage." The couple continues to prioritise their children's privacy and well-being.
