Strictly Come Dancing star Nikita Kuzmin has opened up about the heartbreaking reality of his family being trapped in war-torn Ukraine. The 24-year-old dancer appeared on Loose Women on Tuesday, where he revealed that while some relatives have managed to escape, others remain in the country due to health conditions.
Kuzmin, who joined Strictly last year, described the ongoing conflict as 'heartbreaking and overwhelming'. He shared that his grandmother was able to flee to Poland in March, and he drove from Germany to collect her at the border. However, other family members have been unable to leave because they are too ill to travel.
'We are not able to take them out because of health conditions, so it's constantly on my mind,' Kuzmin said. He also paid tribute to those defending Ukraine, stating, 'I don't want to make it about myself... it's about the heroes who are defending our country.'
The dancer, who previously appeared on The One Show in March, has been using his social media platform to raise awareness about the situation in Ukraine. He recalled seeing his childhood streets bombed and described the emotional toll of the war.
