Susanna Reid has been absent from ITV's Good Morning Britain this week while working on a secret special project. The 55-year-old broadcaster is not expected to return to the famous sofa until Monday, July 6.
Last appearance and major news
Reid was last seen on GMB on Monday, June 22, co-hosting alongside Ed Balls. That morning, the programme extended until 10am, taking over Lorraine Kelly's usual slot, as cameras were set up outside Downing Street. Reid announced: "We are now in rolling news mode, we will be on air until 10am this morning because we've anticipated it all morning."
Later that day, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer emerged from Downing Street to announce his resignation as Prime Minister, stating he would stand down once a replacement is selected. Reid marked the occasion on Instagram, writing: "BREAKING! At 9.30 this morning the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer RESIGNED as Prime Minister live @gmb. ANOTHER resignation at Number 10 in the last DECADE after Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss, and Sunak."
Special project announcement
In the same Instagram post, Reid revealed her upcoming absence, adding: "I'm on a special project and will be back @gmb on Monday 6th July, the week that nominations for a new leader open. See you then @itv." The nature of the project remains undisclosed, and ITV has not commented further.
Replacement presenters
Kate Garraway stepped in to co-host with Ed Balls on Monday, June 29. Adil Ray has confirmed he will present GMB on Thursday, July 2, and has additional dates scheduled: July 9, July 30, July 31, August 6, and August 7. On June 24, Ray posted on Instagram: "Some news! Yes I have not been on in a while but glad to be on a little over the coming weeks, on what remains one the most important shows on UK television, during the most important of times." He added: "Being one of the only (if not the only) Muslims to host a major news show in mainstream peak daytime. So many others have left the traditional outlets, so I am fortunate and grateful of the continued opportunity."
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
