US president Donald Trump appeared to fall asleep live on Fox News during a press conference from the Oval Office this week, reigniting concerns about his health. The 80-year-old was seen slumped at his desk during a policy meeting, with his eyes closing while aides stood behind him delivering speeches.
Details of the Incident
The meeting was recorded for approximately 22 minutes, but Trump struggled to stay awake throughout. He hid his hands under the desk and was forced to blink himself awake at several points. Viewers quickly took to social media to express their worries.
One viewer wrote: "This is pathetic, 30 minutes and Trump can’t stay awake." Another commented: "The naps he took were so frequent, and he looked so comfortable in his dream world that I felt rested just watching him count sheep."
Health Concerns Mount
A third social media user said: "His health is declining so very rapidly." While a fourth added: "Give the man a break, sheeeesh. The amount of LIES he tells per day is draining! Sometimes I fall asleep just listening to his lies."
Last week, Trump’s "swollen ankles" also caused concern. According to Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, authors of Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, joint press conferences with world leaders are held in the Oval Office rather than the East Room "in part because the acoustics were better, and he didn't have to stand for an hour." They added that Trump "was also having trouble hearing, asking people to repeat questions they had just asked."
