Lee Mack has hosted The 1% Club since 2022, and one contestant has now shared what it was really like meeting the presenter. The popular quiz show tests the intelligence of 100 contestants, who must apply logic, reasoning, and common sense to answer questions. A single wrong answer means immediate elimination.
Former Contestant's Experience
Ryan Alexander, a former contestant, spoke about his time on the show. He admitted he hoped word puzzles would not come up, explaining: 'I think I'm very good with puzzles and maths, and the final 1% question was a letter question. My brain doesn't focus very well on words, and it was basically a question about clocks and what word was represented. As soon as the word thing was mentioned, I overthought everything.' He added: 'I ended up running out of time and you're not allowed to verbally give your answer, as you have the tablet.'
Despite the challenge, Ryan described the experience as 'surreal.' He told OLBG: 'I got to attempt to do something that not a lot of people have done. The experience to me was not as valuable as the cash, because that would have been an additional bonus. Being a part of the show was fantastic.' He also noted that the person sitting next to him in the studio loved it just as much, and they had a big watch party with his family when the episode aired.
Recognition After the Show
Ryan recounted being recognised after the show: 'I was later recognised in Morrison's by someone behind the till, which was strange. Then randomly at a wedding someone introduced me to their mum and she recognised me from The 1% Club.'
Meeting Lee Mack
Recalling what it was like meeting host Lee Mack, Ryan commented: 'Lee was exactly how you expect him to be. He was approachable, he was laughing and joking between the questions, he was asking people a bit more about their stories, and then at the end, when obviously I wasn't successful, he'd come over and commiserate. He was really nice.' Ryan added: 'Lee wasn't just there to do a job, he actually seemed to care and was quite happy for Zoe, who won on the day. It was such a fun day.'
