Erling Haaland to Voice Viking in Animated Film Debut

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is set to make his feature film acting debut in an animated movie, where he will voice a Viking character named Haaland. The Norwegian international will play an animated version of himself in Viqueens, directed and co-written by Harald Zwart, the Dutch-Norwegian filmmaker known for The Karate Kid and Agent Cody Banks.

Film Synopsis and Cast

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Viqueens follows two courageous Viking girls who journey from Norway to China to return a stowaway. Along the way, they discover secrets, become skilled with dragon kites, fireworks, and kung fu, and learn that the gifts of friendship outweigh anything taken from adversaries.

Zwart has already secured musician Rita Ora and Yellowjackets star Ella Purnell as the leads, Hedvig and Ingrid, along with chat show host Alan Carr in a supporting role as a lyrically challenged royal scribe.

Director's Comments

Zwart commented on Haaland's casting: "Erling has already become a kind of real-life Viking icon around the world – powerful, fearless and uniquely Norwegian. Bringing him into this universe as himself gives the film an unexpected energy and authenticity that felt completely right for this story."

Haaland's Football Career

Haaland, who joined Manchester City in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund, is currently leading the race for the Golden Boot in the 2025-26 Premier League season, having scored 26 goals so far.

Viqueens is scheduled for release around Christmas.
