The blaze, which originated in a nearby apartment block, spread rapidly to the beloved theatre, leading fire commander Giuseppe Paduano to state that "Very little of the theatre remains."

Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi believes the fire was accidental, though the exact causes are still under investigation by authorities. The incident prompted the evacuation of twenty-two families from surrounding buildings, with four people hospitalised for smoke inhalation. Fortunately, no deaths or serious injuries were reported.
