Oti Mabuse's Fears of Being 'Cancelled' as New Head Judge on Irish Dancing With The Stars
Oti Mabuse on 'cancellation' fears as new Irish Strictly judge

Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse has opened up about the pressures of her new high-profile judging role, admitting she fears being 'cancelled' if she is too honest with contestants.

Stunning Show Appearance and New Role

The 35-year-old dancer turned heads over the weekend during an appearance on Ireland's flagship chat programme, The Late Late Show. Mabuse looked incredible in a strapless black and gold mini dress, which she paired with matching heels and wore her hair in loose waves.

Her visit to the show, hosted by Patrick Kielty, came as she prepares for her new position as head judge on the Irish version of Strictly, Dancing With The Stars. Mabuse was a professional dancer on the BBC's Strictly for six years, securing victories in 2019 with Kevin Clifton and again in 2020 with comedian Bill Bailey.

Family Ties and Fear of 'Cancellation'

During the candid interview, conversation turned to her sister, Motsi Mabuse, who is a judge on the original UK Strictly. Oti praised her sibling's consistently positive approach to critique.

"[Motsi] is my sister, she judges me without me even asking to be judged," Oti said. "I love her and I love her style, she's very positive. Even if someone isn't doing well, she sees the positives."

In contrast, Oti revealed her own anxieties about delivering feedback in today's sensitive climate. She confessed she is often warned about the potential backlash for speaking her mind.

"A lot of times people are like, 'don't say what you're thinking, you'll get cancelled!'" she told Kielty.

Embracing Irish Life and Judging Philosophy

Asked about adjusting to life in Ireland for her new role, the South African-born star joked about the climate and sampled some local staples. "It's very cold, I don't know how you do it, you're strong!" she remarked. "The first thing I did was I had a Guinness. I've had some Taytos," she added, referencing the popular Irish crisps.

Since leaving Strictly in 2021, Mabuse has focused on her presenting career, including hosting her own breakfast show and appearing on Loose Women. On what she will bring to the Dancing With The Stars panel, she promised energy and a focus on emotional connection.

"I definitely think I'm very loud and I'm up for a good time," she said. "Even though I do love seeing technically beautiful dances... it wouldn't hurt to have a little bit of fun with it."

She emphasised that while technique is important, she is ultimately looking for a performance that makes her feel something. "I want to know how you're going to make me feel. I want you to connect with me, with the audience and everyone at home," Mabuse explained.

Oti Mabuse will be joining fellow judges Brian Redmond, Karen Byrne, and Arthur Gourounlian on the upcoming series of Dancing With The Stars in Ireland.
