London commuters using Baker Street station on Wednesday and Thursday will be treated to an unexpected auditory delight: the legendary, honeyed tones of Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman. The 88-year-old star, who recently became the face of Warburtons, will voice a series of playful, bakery-themed announcements on the northbound Jubilee line platform, transforming the typical travel experience.
A Bakery-Themed Transformation
In a whimsical twist, instead of the familiar "mind the gap," Freeman will instruct passengers to "mind the bap" and urge them to "stand behind the buttery yellow line." The station's iconic roundel signage will undergo a temporary makeover, morphing into giant crumpets, while selected platform signs will be humorously rebranded to read "Bakers Street." This creative installation is a collaboration between Transport for London (TfL) and Warburtons, designed to lift the spirits of Londoners and mark the bakery's 150th anniversary.
Warburtons' Celebrity Campaign Tradition
Morgan Freeman is the latest A-list celebrity to feature in Warburtons' advertising campaigns, following in the footsteps of stars like Olivia Colman, Robert De Niro, and George Clooney. In the new advert, Freeman takes viewers on a heartwarming journey through the bakery's history, from its first loaf baked in 1876 to the present day, highlighting the family business's deep-rooted passion for baking.
Warburtons has built a reputation for its humorous, star-studded campaigns that often pair big-name celebrities with chairman Jonathan Warburton. Past campaigns have featured luminaries such as Samuel L. Jackson, Sylvester Stallone, and Peter Kay. For instance, in a 2025 advert titled "The Inspection," Olivia Colman played a stern official from a fictional Department of National Treasures, orchestrating a mock investigation to justify a crumpet heist. In 2021, George Clooney starred in an advert where he attempted to contact Jonathan Warburton with a business idea, only to be thwarted by snack time priorities, with his fee donated to a charity foundation he runs with his wife, Amal.
Promoting Joy and Humour
Jonathan Warburton, chairman of Warburtons, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "At Warburtons, we have a classic Northern sense of humour and we wanted to share a bit of that fun with Londoners on their daily commute and hopefully raise a few smiles. Baker Street was a match made in heaven for our bread puns, and hearing a voice as legendary as Morgan Freeman's booming to travellers is certainly a recipe for a memorable day."
Reflecting on his involvement, Morgan Freeman shared, "Lending my voice to chronicle 150 years of this family's unwavering dedication to the simple, yet profound, act of baking... well, that's a narrative that truly deserves to be heard. Their commitment to quality baking, passed down through generations, shines through, making it abundantly clear why they've remained a beloved household name for so long. And I confess, I found myself quite taken by that crumpet – 300 holes, I told you these Warburtons were crazy!"
This initiative not only celebrates Warburtons' milestone anniversary but also adds a touch of whimsy to the daily grind of London's transport network, showcasing how creative partnerships can enhance public spaces and engage communities in unexpected ways.
