Three More Charged Over Southampton Protests After Murder

Three more people have been charged with violent disorder after protests in Southampton earlier this week following the murder of Henry Nowak. Connor Bishop, 24, of Oxford Street, Southampton, Reece Robinson, 21, of Soberton Road, Havant, and Noah Etherington, 18, of Rowbury Road, Havant, will appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning, Hampshire Police said.

The charges come in the wake of protests following the sentencing of Vickrum Digwa, 23, to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of 21 years for the murder of 18-year-old Mr Nowak in December. Anger erupted after police body-worn video was released showing Mr Nowak being placed in handcuffs moments before he became unconscious and subsequently died.

Henry Nowak died after suffering a stab wound to the chest while on a night out with his football team-mates. The release of the footage sparked public outcry and demonstrations in Southampton, leading to multiple arrests and charges. The three new defendants are accused of participating in violent disorder during these protests, which reportedly involved clashes with police and damage to property.

Hampshire Police have stated that investigations are ongoing and further arrests cannot be ruled out. The force has urged the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course. The court appearance on Friday will be the first for Bishop, Robinson, and Etherington, who are expected to be remanded in custody or granted bail pending further proceedings.
