Naomi Osaka has posted an Instagram photo in front of the Eiffel Tower in her French Open outfit, as the former world No. 1 rallies against criticism over the tournament turning into a 'fashion show'.
Her opponent on Tuesday, Germany's Laura Siegemund, bemoaned the preferential treatment afforded to tennis' 'bigger stars'.
Osaka wore a custom-made Nike outfit that has been likened to the Eiffel Tower in her 6-3, 7-6 defeat of Siegemund on Tuesday. The sequined and glittery gold ensemble also included a ceremonial black skirt and sleeveless beaded bodice which she wore walking out on to the court before taking off the latter two items.
And while the beaten Siegemund had no issue with the actual outfit design or the result, she expressed some frustration at the time Osaka was awarded to take off her outer garments in comparison to how long players are allowed to do meaningful things during matches.
Yet the No. 16 seed has taken no notice of her former opponent's criticism, posting a picture of her wearing the outfit in front of the iconic Parisian landmark on Wednesday.
