Tiffany Lo, a fashion and beauty journalist, attended Pokémon Go Fest in Copenhagen for the first time, describing the experience as having her "jaw on the floor." The festival, held from June 27-29, 2026, celebrated the 10th anniversary of Pokémon Go, the augmented reality mobile game that went viral upon launch.
Park Experience at Fælledparken
Lo spent her first day at Fælledparken, where she encountered a giant inflatable Pikachu and a merchandise store. She noted that attendees were serious about the event, with many dressing up in costumes, including a content creator in a handmade Mewtwo costume and a boy in a Charizard outfit. Lo herself dressed as a Pokéball, wearing a red Stine Goya jacket and yellow Izipizi sunglasses. She brought a Burga power bank to keep her phone charged throughout the day.
The park featured dedicated "battle stations" for players to fight their Pokémon against each other. Lo observed groups of strangers standing together, swiping their phones in unison, which she found puzzling at first. Near the end of the morning session, she witnessed a group of about 2,000 people participating in a special "raid" against Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y. The players held their phones up and down three times, then applauded each other and dispersed.
Community and Camaraderie
Lo spoke with Christina, a dedicated Pokémon Go fan from Germany, who explained the appeal of the festival. Christina said, "If you have watched the anime, you'd remember Ash and his friends visited different 'dojos' [or as we call it, gyms] and battle against other trainers. We are doing the same here with our phones. It is a very fun and unique way to bring the community together, and to see that happening in person, it is amazing."
Lo noted that the festival brought a close-knit community together, reminiscent of the early days of Pokémon Go when players would hunt for Pokémon and make friends in the real world.
City Experience and Stamp Rally
On the second day, Lo opted for the city experience, which involved following a stamp rally route. She packed a water bottle, power bank, and a Secrid wallet, which allowed her to slide out cards with one hand while catching Pokémon with the other. The route took her to the Lego Store in Tivoli Gardens, the Lego Store in Copenhagen city centre, the King's Garden, the Gefion Fountain, and finally Fælledparken. Lo walked 25,000 steps during the day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
At the end of the day, she joined a "Mega Mewtwo raid" and successfully caught a 98% IV Mewtwo with a Copenhagen background. Lo remarked, "2026 is the new 2016 indeed."
Upcoming Global Event
All city-based Pokémon Go Fest events have concluded, but a Pokémon Go Fest Global event is scheduled for July 11-12, 2026, from 10 am to 7 pm local time. The event is free for all players; they simply need to download the app and log in during those hours.
