Jaclyn Smith, best known for her role as Kelly Garrett on the iconic 1970s series Charlie's Angels, has shared the secret behind her remarkably youthful appearance at the age of 80. When asked about her beauty tips at the Paley Honors Spring Gala in New York City, the television icon was ready to divulge the reason for her effortless glow.
The Four-Word Secret
“Clean living, being loved,” Smith told Fox News Digital. She elaborated, “I have the best family in the whole wide world to grow up with. Great husband, two beautiful children, three granddaughters. So, it doesn't get better than that. It's all about love, all about family with me.” Smith has been married to her fourth husband, surgeon Brad Allen, since 1997.
A Legacy on Charlie's Angels
Smith played Kelly Garrett on Charlie's Angels from 1976 until the series concluded in 1981, making her the only Angel to appear in all five seasons. The show, which centered on undercover female detectives, celebrated its 50th anniversary with a reunion at the Paley Honors Spring Gala on May 14. Smith attended alongside former co-stars Kate Jackson and Cheryl Ladd.
“Hello from The Paley Honors gala in New York! What a treat to celebrate again with my friends from the Paley Center,” Smith wrote on Instagram after the event. “Kate and I were so lucky to attend and accept this on behalf of our Charlie's Angels family, continuing in our celebration of 50 years since the launch of the series. Grateful doesn’t begin to encompass how I feel to have been and continue to be a part of that legacy.”
Jackson also expressed her amazement at the show's enduring popularity. “Oh, it's wonderful,” she said. “I mean, that we would be here 50 years later, 50 years after the debut, and it's still on television all over the world, never has gone off. It's just really amazing.”
Impact and Legacy
The original ABC crime drama starred Smith, Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett as private investigators who left the police academy to work for their mysterious boss. Charlie's Angels became a pop culture staple and inspired a film franchise in the 2000s starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu.
Smith admitted she did not anticipate the series would make her one of television's most recognizable style icons. “When I was starting out, no,” she said. “But I guess we did pave the way for some glamor and looking at women in a different way. We sort of paved that way for new roles for women.”
