Kid Rock's MAGA-Linked Country Festival Cancelled in South Carolina After Artist Exodus
Kid Rock's MAGA Festival Cancelled After Artists Withdraw

Kid Rock's country music festival, Rock the Country, which has faced criticism for its perceived political alignment, has been abruptly cancelled in Anderson, South Carolina. The decision comes after a significant number of artists withdrew from the event, citing concerns over its divisive nature and logistical issues.

Festival Cancellation Confirmed by County Officials

Anderson County administrator Rusty Burns confirmed the cancellation to Fox Carolina, stating that the two-day event scheduled for July 25 and 26 will no longer proceed. Burns expressed disappointment, highlighting the festival's previous success in drawing tens of thousands of visitors and generating a multi-million-dollar economic impact for the Upstate region over the past two years.

"Anderson County has been proud to host Rock the Country for the past two years. The event was a huge success drawing tens of thousands of visitors, making a multi-million-dollar economic impact on the Upstate," said Burns. "An event of this caliber proved what a great venue and exceptional hospitality we have here in Anderson County. Of course, we are disappointed that Rock the Country will not return to Anderson this year."

Burns added that the county is already planning additional major events and remains committed to bringing high-quality arts and entertainment to the community.

Artist Withdrawals Trigger Collapse

The cancellation follows a series of high-profile artist departures from the lineup. Rock band Shinedown announced their exit on Friday in a social media statement, emphasising their desire to unite rather than divide audiences.

"Shinedown is everyone's band. We feel that we have been given a platform to bring all people together through the power of music and song," the statement read. "We have one BOSS, and it is everyone in the audience. Our band's purpose is to unite, not divide. With that in mind, we have made the decision that we will not be playing the Rock The Country Festival."

The band acknowledged that their decision "will create differences of opinion" but stated they did not want to participate in something they believe "will create further division."

Multiple Acts Quietly Withdraw

Shinedown's withdrawal came after rapper Ludacris also dropped off the bill. A representative for Ludacris told Rolling Stone that there had been a "mix-up" and that "lines got crossed and he wasn't supposed to be on there."

Additionally, country musicians Morgan Wade and Carter Faith, along with Christian-inspired rock band Creed, all quietly removed themselves from the lineup without providing explicit reasons. The Independent has contacted Rock the Country for comment on these developments.

Political Controversy Surrounds Festival

Rock the Country, founded by Kid Rock in 2024, has been labelled a "MAGA fest" by critics due to its founder's emphatic support for former President Donald Trump. Co-headliner Jason Aldean has also faced similar criticism for his political associations.

The festival's website bills it as "more than just a festival," describing it as "a celebration of community, tradition, and the spirit that's carried America through 250 years." However, this messaging has been overshadowed by the political connotations attached to its key figures.

Kid Rock is also scheduled to headline the right-wing organization's All-American Halftime Show on Sunday, created in protest of the NFL's selection of Puerto Rican singer and rapper Bad Bunny as its 2026 Super Bowl halftime performer. Meanwhile, Rock's 2001 song "Cool, Daddy Cool," which contains several unsavory lyrics, has resurfaced ahead of his performance.

Ticketing and Refund Information

For those who purchased tickets to the Anderson event, options include transferring tickets to another Rock the Country stop with a $50 merchandise voucher for on-site use or requesting a full refund by completing a form sent via email.

The multi-city festival was scheduled to run for two days per venue in eight U.S. states from May 1 to September 21. The Anderson lineup originally featured Kid Rock and Jason Aldean as headliners, plus Creed, Shinedown, Brantley Gilbert, Ludacris, Gretchen Wilson, Parmalee, Morgan Wade, Chase Matthew, Lakeview, Fox N' Vead, and others.
