Kid Rock's MAGA-Friendly Country Festival Addresses South Carolina Cancellation Following Artist Exodus
Rock the Country Festival, the country music tour launched by controversial star Kid Rock and often labeled a "MAGA fest," has officially addressed the cancellation of its South Carolina stop after a series of high-profile artists dropped from the lineup.
Lineup Changes Lead to Event Cancellation
The multi-city festival was scheduled to perform in Anderson, South Carolina, during the weekend of July 25. However, organizers announced the cancellation after several performers, including the rock band Shinedown, withdrew from the show. The initial lineup, announced in January, featured prominent names such as Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Ludacris, Morgan Wade, Creed, Brantley Gilbert, Gretchen Wilson, and Parmalee. Ludacris and Morgan Wade had already exited due to fan backlash, and Shinedown's departure, citing concerns about creating "further division," ultimately sealed the fate of the South Carolina date.
Organizers Issue Statement on Cancellation
In a statement to The Independent on Monday, festival organizers clarified the reasons behind the Anderson cancellation. "Rock the Country was created to unite people together through music. Our lineups and our crowds reflect that sentiment — a wide range of voices, backgrounds, and stories that make up this country," the festival said. "We're truly disappointed we won't be bringing the show to Anderson. Our fans work hard for their money, and we refuse to put on a show that doesn't meet the standard they deserve."
The statement continued, emphasizing the festival's core values: "Our focus remains where it's always been: Supporting our artists, honoring our fans, and delivering unforgettable nights throughout the country. The shows ahead represent the heart of what Rock the Country stands for: music, community, and pride in where we come from. Loving America isn't political; it's who we are."
Tour Adjustments and Local Impact
Rock the Country was originally planned as a two-day-per-venue tour across eight towns in the United States, running from May 1 to September 21. With the South Carolina stop now canceled, the tour will proceed with seven states, concluding on September 12 in Hamburg, New York. The festival, first launched in 2024 by Kid Rock, had successfully stopped in Anderson for the past two years, drawing significant crowds and economic benefits.
Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns expressed disappointment in a previous statement: "Anderson County has been proud to host Rock the Country for the past two years. The event was a huge success drawing tens of thousands of visitors, making a multi-million-dollar economic impact on the Upstate. An event of this caliber proved what a great venue and exceptional hospitality we have here in Anderson County. Of course, we are disappointed that Rock the Country will not return to Anderson this year."
Ticket Options for Affected Fans
Fans who purchased tickets for the Anderson shows have been offered two options:
- Transfer their tickets to another Rock the Country stop and receive a $50 merchandise voucher.
- Request a full refund via email.
The cancellation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by festivals with politically charged branding, as artist withdrawals and fan reactions continue to shape event logistics and community engagements across the country music scene.
