Just hours before authorities announced he would not be charged for allegedly punching his neighbour, Reacher star Alan Ritchson shared a cryptic social media message referencing an "enemy." The 43-year-old actor posted on Instagram late Monday night, quoting former French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte: "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." Ritchson offered no additional caption, letting the historical quote stand alone.
Police Close Investigation Citing Self-Defence
On Tuesday, police confirmed to the Daily Mail that no criminal charges would be pursued against Ritchson following a Sunday altercation with neighbour Ronnie Taylor in Brentwood, Tennessee. The Brentwood Police Department, coordinating with the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, concluded their investigation after reviewing video evidence and witness statements.
Authorities determined Ritchson’s actions constituted lawful self-defence. Although a potential reckless endangerment charge was considered, Ritchson declined to pursue charges against Taylor. With agreement from the District Attorney’s Office, the case is now formally closed.
Bodycam Footage Reveals Altercation Details
A newly released bodycam video, recorded by Ritchson and shared on TikTok, shows Taylor initiating physical contact. The footage depicts Taylor leaving his property, crossing a sidewalk, and stepping into the street where Ritchson was riding his green Kawasaki motorcycle with his two children.
Taylor allegedly adopted an aggressive stance to block the actor’s path, leading to a heated exchange. Taylor is heard criticising Ritchson’s riding as reckless, while Ritchson questioned if Taylor had been drinking. The situation escalated when Taylor pushed Ritchson and his motorcycle twice, after which Ritchson responded with punches to Taylor’s face.
Fan Support and Neighbour Allegations
Fans quickly rallied behind Ritchson in the comments of his Instagram post. One supporter wrote, "I know you're way too good of a dude to do that unprovoked. I’m with Alan all the way on this one." Another added, "I don't for a second believe you would have acted that way without being provoked."
Taylor provided a different account to TMZ, alleging the incident began on Saturday when Ritchson was riding his motorcycle at excessive speeds, disturbing the neighbourhood peace. Taylor claimed he gestured at Ritchson, who responded in kind. The following day, when Ritchson rode through with two children, Taylor asked him to stop, leading to the confrontation. Taylor reported being punched multiple times, resulting in bruises and swelling, though he did not seek hospital treatment.
Background and Career
Ritchson, best known for portraying Jack Reacher in the Amazon Prime Video series, was with his two sons during the incident. He shares three children with his wife Catherine, whom he married in 2006 after meeting in a college dance class. His television credits include roles in Smallville, Blue Mountain State, and Titans, while film appearances encompass the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboots, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Fast X. The fourth season of Reacher is scheduled for release in 2026.
The altercation, witnessed by neighbours, was partially captured in a video from an adjacent house, showing Ritchson striking Taylor on the ground. TMZ later published images of Taylor with facial injuries. Despite the dramatic footage, the legal resolution affirms Ritchson’s actions as defensive, bringing a swift conclusion to the highly publicised neighbourhood dispute.
