Denise Richards Ordered to Pay Monthly Spousal Support to Ex-Husband
A judge has mandated that actress Denise Richards must provide temporary spousal support to her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers, as their divorce proceedings continue to unfold. The 55-year-old star of Wild Things is required to pay Phypers $5,000 each month, starting in March, until the court issues further instructions.
Financial Obligations and Legal Costs
In addition to the monthly payments, Richards has been directed to cover an extra $30,000 to address her ex-husband's legal expenses. This sum includes $25,000 for attorney fees and $5,000 for a forensic accountant. The $30,000 will be disbursed in three installments of $10,000, scheduled from March through May.
The ruling comes after Phypers filed a request for immediate financial assistance, citing his alleged lack of stable income following disruptions to his business operations in late 2024. He argued that he deserves temporary spousal support to maintain financial fairness during the litigation process.
Background of the Divorce and Legal Disputes
Richards and Phypers tied the knot in 2018, but their marriage soured, leading both parties to file for divorce in 2025. Initially, Phypers sought spousal support, while Richards countered with her own request for support from him. The divorce has been marked by heightened tensions, particularly after Phypers was arrested in October 2025 on allegations of domestic abuse, though he has pleaded not guilty.
Despite the pending criminal case, Phypers maintained that his legal situation should not preclude him from receiving spousal support, as no conviction has been secured. The court's decision to grant his request underscores the complexity of their legal battle.
Recent Court Appearances and Personal Dynamics
During a recent court hearing in Los Angeles, Richards appeared in high spirits, dressed in an all-black ensemble, while Phypers seemed more solemn. Their contrasting demeanors highlighted the ongoing strain between them. The couple does not share any children, though Phypers had intended to adopt Richards' youngest daughter, Eloise, in 2019—a plan that reportedly fell through due to unfiled paperwork.
Richards is also mother to two daughters from her previous marriage to actor Charlie Sheen, which ended in 2006 after four years of marriage.
Broader Context and Public Statements
The divorce has spilled into public view, with Phypers and his parents being evicted from their shared mansion last December over alleged unpaid rent. A since-deleted GoFundMe campaign sought financial help for Phypers, which Richards criticized for involving her daughter. In a podcast appearance, she expressed outrage at the fundraiser, stating that while she can handle personal attacks, dragging her child into the matter is unacceptable.
Phypers has also claimed entitlement to half of Richards' earnings from OnlyFans, adding another layer to their financial disputes. As the divorce battle rages on, both parties await further court rulings that will determine the final outcome of their separation.
