Ioan Gruffudd and Alice Evans Fail to Reach Settlement Ahead of Nine-Day Trial
Fantastic Four actor Ioan Gruffudd and his former spouse Alice Evans were granted one final opportunity on Tuesday to resolve their acrimonious, years-long conflict before a demanding nine-day trial commences next week. However, the hearing concluded at a deadlock, with neither party prepared to concede any ground, as exclusively revealed by the Daily Mail.
Courtroom Showdown Proceeds as Scheduled
Consequently, the explosive courtroom confrontation between the feuding ex-partners will proceed as planned on February 23 at Los Angeles Superior Court. A judge will now be compelled to adjudicate their toxic dispute, which has escalated over numerous years.
Gruffudd, aged 51, attended the trial readiness conference attired in a navy suit. Evans, 57, participated remotely via an audio link during the hearing. Judge Michael Convey cautioned that this session represented "the last stop for this case," underscoring the urgency for resolution.
Core Issues: Restraining Order and Financial Support
At the heart of the conflict is Gruffudd's application for a permanent restraining order against his ex-wife. He alleges she has engaged in "abuse and harassment" directed at him and his new wife, Bianca Wallace, 33, whom he intends to summon as a witness during the trial.
Additionally, the former couple are embroiled in a dispute concerning spousal and child support payments for their two daughters, Ella, 16, and Elsie, 12. The battling duo have convened for several court-mandated settlement conferences. While they managed to agree on some minor issues, they remain fundamentally divided on these two major points of contention.
Judge's Plea for Civility and Focus on Children
On Tuesday, after listening to their legal representatives confirm that further "meet-and-confer sessions" had also failed to resolve their disputes, Judge Convey implored Gruffudd and Evans to maintain civility towards each other. He urged them to avoid transforming the impending trial into a destructive, knock-down-drag-out fight.
"You are represented by excellent attorneys - use those attorneys for the benefit of your family," the judge advised them. "We don't need drama. We need to concentrate on the best interests of the children."
Allegations and Counter-Allegations Detailed
According to court filings associated with the hearing, the drama has reached a boiling point due to multiple incidents over recent years. Gruffudd asserts that, despite a previous three-year restraining order against her, Evans has conducted an "extensive and relentless five-year campaign of domestic abuse" against him and Wallace. Wallace gave birth to the actor's newest daughter, Mila, in November.
Gruffudd aims to terminate spousal support and extend the restraining order to prevent Evans from "stalking" him and disparaging him and his new wife online. Evans vehemently denies all accusations, labelling them "simply not reasonable or credible." She contends that her recent social media comments "were not harassment - they were merely statements made by Alice about her life and current circumstances."
Financial Dispute Intensifies
Evans is demanding an increase in Gruffudd's current monthly spousal support payments from $1,500 to $1,850, and his child support from $3,000 per month to $4,650. The actor, however, seeks to "terminate" spousal support entirely, citing Evans's "persistent domestic abuse of him and her many violations of the restraining order."
Gruffudd further maintains that he has already "grossly overpaid" Evans in spousal support, amounting to approximately $400,000. Evans has claimed financial hardship, alleging she and her daughters were evicted from their home for falling behind on rent. She states she has been forced to sell designer clothing and establish a GoFundMe account to afford basic necessities.
Gruffudd disputes this narrative, alleging Evans "purposely got herself evicted…. to support her false public narrative of financial destitution in an attempt to further harm my reputation……as a fraudulent way to strong-arm me into paying more support than I can afford." He insists Evans earned over $130,000 in 2024 and is capable of full-time employment.
Broader Allegations and Legal Costs
Gruffudd reports an annual income of about $575,000, while Evans counters that he was earning closer to $588,000 annually prior to their separation. She has also accused him of infrequently seeing their daughters, but Gruffudd attributes this to her actions.
"Alice's intentional and extensive social media campaign to damage his earning capacity as an actor and over her jealousy of his wife Bianca Gruffudd have poisoned and alienated the girls' once-healthy relationship with their father," he argues.
Furthermore, Gruffudd is demanding Evans reimburse the $43,000 in legal fees he incurred to petition the court to renew the restraining order against her. She has opposed this request, describing the amount as "unbelievable" and asserting she "does not have the ability" to pay any additional sums.
Background of the Relationship
Evans and Gruffudd first met on the set of the film 102 Dalmatians more than two decades ago. They developed a real-life romance and married in Mexico in 2007. Gruffudd filed for divorce in March 2021, shortly after Evans announced on social media that her husband of 14 years was leaving her. Their divorce was officially finalized in July 2023.
