Inquest Opens into Death of Tattoo Artist Charlie Edwards
An inquest into the death of tattoo artist and model Charlie Edwards has been formally opened, with the cause of his passing still undetermined. The 26-year-old, who was the ex-boyfriend of actress Emily Atack, was found at his studio in Humberston on March 24.
Coroner's Investigation and Funeral Arrangements
Assistant Coroner for Greater Lincolnshire, Jane Eatock, opened the proceedings at Grimsby Town Hall. She reported that a post-mortem examination has been conducted, but the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed at this stage. The inquest has been adjourned and is scheduled to resume in September.
A funeral service to celebrate Charlie Edwards' life will be held at Grimsby Crematorium on Friday, May 1, at 2.15 pm. The family has welcomed floral tributes and suggested that donations can be made to charities such as The Andy's Man Club or The Fisherman's Mission via their respective websites.
Emily Atack's Heartfelt Tribute
Last month, Emily Atack, the 36-year-old star known for roles in The Inbetweeners and Celebrity Juice, shared a moving tribute to her former partner on Instagram. She described Charlie as "funny, smart, talented and caring" and expressed her hope that he had found peace.
In her emotional post, Atack wrote: "This is devastating to write. Charlie you were my friend. You were ALWAYS there for me. You dropped everything so many times to come and be with me. We talked for hours on end on the phone about absolutely everything. We helped each other." She added, "My heart breaks for your family who will forever be so proud of you. Beautiful boy, beautiful soul. I'm so so sorry. Rest in peace Charlie."
The pair had remained close friends after their split, with Atack revealing they maintained regular phone conversations. She shared a photo on Instagram showing Charlie grinning at the camera while she held his shoulder, capturing their enduring bond.
Career and Personal Life of Charlie Edwards
Charlie Edwards was a self-employed tattoo artist whose work gained recognition, including appreciation from US rapper Post Malone. He previously ran a business called Ravens Retreat with his brother Jack and was an advocate for reducing the stigma around body art.
In an interview with the Grimsby Telegraph, Edwards discussed his professional approach: "Some people are wary that having a tattoo might affect them getting jobs." He emphasized that he always ensured clients carefully selected their designs, avoiding impulsive decisions like "drunken holiday tattoos" that might be regretted later.
Edwards and Atack began dating in October 2021 after meeting through mutual friends, but their romance ended after just three months. Sources cited Atack's hectic work schedule and strict Covid-19 restrictions as factors that made it challenging for the couple to spend time together.
A friend commented at the time: "Emily's work schedule has been busy lately and she's had to really focus on making that work. She was really into Charlie, who is obviously very handsome, and there was a good spark there, but it's definitely over." Their relationship was initially revealed when they were spotted kissing during a night out in London.
